First Aid Nursing Yeomanry.

Being a member of 'Yeoman' is not an exclusively male preserve. During the Great War there were many womens' organisations working on or not far behind the lines at the front. Many of these organisations were quite small and since there was no single body to organise, unify or co-ordinate them, quite often performed the same function as each other. Our female members turn out as FANYs or members of the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry. The display comprises of a tented Advanced Dressing Station, based on the station the FANY ran in Oostkerke for the Belgian army. The story of the FANYs as an organisation is in itself a fascinating one, if not widely told. From amongst it's ranks there has been no shortage of tales of individual bravery and fortitude from both world wars.
